I have been making my own tempeh out of oats, rice, beans, and coconut for the past 3 years. Tempeh originates from Indonesia, mostly grown on soybeans, and has been cultivated for over a thousand years. It is the main food source in Indonesia because it is cheap to make and transforms low quality foods into bioavailable meat - similar to that of flesh meat.
