30-minute Belly Dance Class
I will teach you the basics of traditional middle eastern dance, tribal fusion belly dance, and my own style of hip-hop belly dance. If you learn to belly dance, you will notice improvements in your core strength, balance, digestion, posture, and self-esteem! These private lessons are for people of all gender expressions and levels of ability. I am body-positive and all classes are a judgment-free zone! :)
I am happy to help you with basic costuming ideas. Once you've mastered the basic, I will guide you through creative exercises that will help you express your own personal style and look. I have performed in front of thousands of people around the world via Periscope, so I can also give you tips on monetizing your dancing online.
The classes will consist of warm-ups, exercises, and cool-downs tailor to your individual needs and goals. As we go along, I will teach you short choreographies that you can do to entertain your friends and family or show off at the club!
Training & Qualifications
I first started belly dancing in 1996 after watching Shakira's Ojos Asi music video on repeat for weeks. My parents had taught me to dance salsa, meringue, and cumbia, and we were all shocked when I naturally mimicked what I had seen. I took lessons from a lovely, body-positive teacher in Maryland who taught me everything she knew during a weekly 10-month program. I moved to Michigan and found that I was teaching my new teacher new moves. After receiving compliments from classmates and audience members, I decided to transition into teaching belly dance in 2001. I have been teaching people to wiggle, jiggle, shimmy, and twerk every since. (I am also a percussionist, guitarist and vocalist and in the picture below, I was performing at a party in Portland, Oregon.)
